General terms and conditions which apply to Global Fund grants. 47045-TUN-810-G02-T-2 The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria While still under control, tuberculosis (TB) prevalence, incidence and mortality rates have increased in Tunisia in recent years, affecting the country’s prospects of realizing the Millennium Development Goal to halve TB prevalence and mortality by 2015 as compared with 1990. In addition, between 2002 and 2006 the prevalence of multidrug-resistant TB increased from 1.14 percent to 2.7 percent among new cases, and from 31 percent to 36 percent among retreated cases. The program supported by this grant aims to address gaps in the national TB strategy through strengthening DOTS (the basic package that underpins the Stop TB Strategy), improving prevention and care of multidrug-resistant TB, as well as by contributing to lower the incidence of TB among high-risk population groups (contact persons, prisoners and health care staff). Additional objectives are to decrease the lead time for testing suspected TB cases at the basic health care center level through reinforcement of the laboratory network; improve the TB monitoring and evaluation system; and strengthen national program management. The program is supported by two Global Fund grants implemented by a government and civil society Principal Recipient, respectively, working in partnership. This grant funds the majority of the activities.
