47045-SRL-911-G15-S-2 The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria <narrative xml:lang="en">Strengthening community-based, Primary Health Care (PHC) Workforce in post conflict areas of northern Sri Lanka (PCA) - Sri Lanka (01-Jul-2013-30-Jun-2017)</narrative> Sri Lanka has registered exceptional health gains in relation to HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis (TB) and Malaria response, for a country with low per-capita health-spending. The conflict in Northern and Eastern provinces has totally destroyed the health system in many of the districts disrupting services in terms of infrastructure, logistics and health workforce while displacing several hundreds of thousands of civilians into new settlements. Acute shortage of motivated, competent, and community-based Primary Health Care (PHC) workforce in Northern and Eastern Provinces is preventing adequate level of preventive health services from reaching the hundreds of thousands of displaced population in the Post Conflict Areas. The program supported by this grant maintains the current low prevalence of HIV/AIDS, TB and Malaria in the Post Conflict Areas of the Northern Province by early restoration of healthcare services. The program maintains the achievements in regard to control of the three target diseases achieved with the assistance of the Global Fund funding since Round 1. The current grant will help organize community workers to support existing health staff in each Public Health Midwives (PHM) area, and review the training curricula for Community Health Volunteers.
