47045-QPA-H-HIVOS-1 The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria Despite enormous achievements in the last decade in the provision of treatment and the reduction of AIDS-related deaths, which fell by 39% between 2005 and 2013 in sub-Saharan Africa, new infections among key populations (KPs) are on the rise. This regional program aims to contribute to a strengthened key population reponse to HIV and AIDS in the Southern Africa region, namely eight focus countries: Botswana, Lesotho, Malawi, Namibia, South Africa, Swaziland, Zambia and Zimbabwe. This will be achieved by strengthening networks of KPs, particularly Sex Workers (SW), Men who have Sex with Men (MSM), Transgender people (TG) and Women who have Sex with Women (WSW) to advocate for better programmes and policies in Southern Africa. Three distinct sets of activity are prioritised (i) to build the institutional and organizational capacity of regional and national networks of KPs to be well governed, operationally functional civil society organisations; (ii) to enhance broader knowledge generation and knowledge management and sharing of KP strategic information and programming; and (iii) to build a unified KP-led voice to address the current drivers of negative beliefs and attitudes against KPs and shift attitudes and perceptions towards KPs for reduction in stigma and discrimination. This will lead to improved accessability to HIV prevention, testing and treatments services thereby reducing HIV infections and HIV-related deaths.
