47045-NMB-T-MoHSS-2 The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria <narrative xml:lang="en">NULL - Namibia (01-Oct-2013-31-Dec-2017)</narrative> Tuberculosis (TB) is a major public health problem in Namibia with the fourth highest TB incidence rate in Africa. About 67 percent of newly registered TB patients are HIV positive (Epidemiological Fact Sheet on HIV and AIDS, UNAIDS, September 2008). This Program will aim to achieve universal coverage of patient-centered DOTS while building upon existing successful models of community-based TB care (CBTBC) to achieve more than 90 percent patient-level coverage. Given the high TB/HIV co-morbidity in Namibia, the Program addresses coordination of TB/HIV activities at national and regional level. Data quality improvement and evidence creation to inform program implementation are key components of this Program. Its goal is to reduce tuberculosis transmission, morbidity and mortality to such a level that tuberculosis is no longer a public health problem. The Program will target TB suspects and TB patients (including those with clinical complications and HIV co-infection); marginalized communities and populations, including those living in rural areas; and the general population of the 13 regions in Namibia, with a focus on Omaheke region. This is a consolidation of the Round 10 and Rolling Continuation Channel (RCC) Round 2 TB grants.
