47045-MOZ-809-G08-S-1 The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria Insufficient laboratory capacity has been a major problem in limiting the scale-up of HIV, Tuberculosis (TB) and Malaria programs in Mozambique. Poor access to laboratory testing and poor quality tests results in many patients being poorly diagnosed and/or not treated effectively. This limits the program enrolment and reduces positive health outcomes. The goal of the program is to strengthen health systems and communities through Public-Private Partnerships and to target health sector human resources and Laboratory and diagnostic systems. The activities support key components of the National Strategic Plan for Laboratories in Mozambique from 2008 to 2012. These will include upgrading laboratories to diagnose infection and monitor treatment efficacy in 40 facilities, repairing and maintaining existing equipment, strengthening referral and quality of diagnostic services through a stronger national public health reference laboratory, supporting management skills of in-service health care workers, and implementing an external quality assurance program and national laboratory policy.
