General terms and conditions which apply to Global Fund grants. 47045-MLW-911-G08-M-2 The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria Malaria is the leading cause of morbidity and mortality in Malawi and it accounts for 38 percent on all Out-Patient Department (OPD) attendance. The Malaria inpatient death rate is 20 percent in under 5 years and 3 percent in those over 5 years of age. According to Malawi’s Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey in 2006, 21 percent of the population have access to anti-malarial drugs within 24 hours.. The Insecticide Treated Nets (ITNs) usage was at 24.7 percent and 25.6 percent for children under five and pregnant women respectively. The program supported by this grant focuses on the diagnosis of suspected Malaria cases with rapid diagnostic tests and distribution of Long Lasting Insecticide Nets (LLINs) as these are major gaps identified and in line with universal access to Malaria interventions. The goal is to reduce the burden of Malaria to a level of no public health significance and to achieve universal coverage for all Malaria control interventions, particularly diagnosis and prevention. The activities include procurement, distribution, and storage of LLINs, community mobilization, and behaviour change communication.
