47045-MKD-011-G04-T-2 The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria <narrative xml:lang="en">Ensuring High Quality and Sustainable DOTs Interventions in the Republic of Macedonia - North Macedonia (01-Oct-2013-31-Mar-2017)</narrative> Tuberculosis (TB) incidence among ethnic populations in Macedonia is significantly high. The data for Multi-Drug Resistant TB (MDR-TB) in the country is incomplete and data on TB/HIV is largely known especially among high risk groups such as prisoners. The overall goal of the program is to ensure high quality and sustainable Directly Observed Treatment Short-course (DOTS) interventions in the country. The target beneficiaries for this program are all inhabitants of Macedonia that visit the Primary Health Care (PHC) services for respiratory symptoms and populations at high risk for TB like ethnic minorities, prisoners and Injecting Drug Users (IDUs) with special emphasis on MDR-TB and TB/HIV co-infection among them. The program builds on achievements and experiences gained through the implementation of Round 5 TB grant in Macedonia. The current grant will scale-up activities to address MDR-TB, TB/HIV and other challenges with special consideration to vulnerable groups and assure high quality TB control by enhancing the DOTS strategy at all levels of health care.
