47045-MAC-910-G02-H-2 The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria The Caribbean is among the regions most affected by HIV, second only to sub-Saharan Africa. HIV prevalence ranges from less than 1 percent in Cuba to greater than 3 percent in Haiti. The goal of the program supported by this grant is to establish, consolidate and effectively coordinate regional support to Caribbean countries in their efforts to reduce the impact of HIV and AIDS on the human and economic development of the Caribbean region. The program has four major components: (1) the promotion and protection of human rights; (2) the prevention of HIV transmission; (3) the provision of care and support for people living with and/or affected by HIV; and (4) strengthening HIV and AIDS monitoring and evaluation systems. Specific objectives include the creation of a regional mechanism to guarantee and protect the human rights of people living with HIV and their families; assured access to culturally appropriate HIV prevention services for key Caribbean populations; a minimum level of HIV services available across Caribbean countries and a standardized minimum care package available in all care facilities; strengthened monitoring and evaluation systems to ensure that Caribbean countries are able to evaluate their progress in fighting HIV and AIDS.
