General terms and conditions which apply to Global Fund grants. 47045-LSO-810-G08-T-2 The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria According to World Health Organization (WHO) Global TB Report 2008, in Lesotho approximately 23 percent of the adult population are living with HIV, 76 percent of detected TB patients are co-infected with HIV, and 48 percent of persons with TB are HIV-positive. The overall objective of the Round 8 program is to provide urgent treatment for MDR-TB, XDR-TB and other forms of resistant TB, as well as to strengthen DOTS in both public and private sectors, thereby preventing new resistant strains from appearing. To support TB control, the grant focuses on strengthening TB program management through appointment of a full-time National Tuberculosis Program Manager, engagement of a resident TB Advisor, recruited to provide technical assistance, and establishment of a full-fledged National TB Reference Laboratory capable of performing quality-assured mycobacterial culture, speciation and first-line drug-susceptibility testing (DST). Furthermore, basic DOTS is being strengthened through quality assurance for sputum microscopy, training various categories of health care workers in collaboration with the private sector (Public-Private Mix - PPM) in order to ensure quality TB diagnosis and treatment in all sectors.
