47045-LKA-809-G11-M-2 The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria Sri Lanka is the first Southeast Asia country to have successfully controlled malaria. Since 2,000, no patient has died from the disease. In the pre-eradication era, nearly 40 percent of the population was subject to malaria annually. The program supported by this grant aims to strengthen active case surveillance through the use of several interventions aimed at actively seeking parasite-carrying individuals in the community. For this purpose, the program will use mobile malaria clinics to detect symptomatic and asymptomatic malaria cases. In addition to strengthening active surveillance, the program will ensure total indoor residual spraying coverage in foci and the distribution of long-lasting insecticidal nets and other vector control measures as complementary measures in specific situations; implement an outbreak preparedness and rapid response strategy for early containment of outbreaks; contain imported malaria through the prevention of malaria in travelers; and develop appropriate web-based databases for illness and vector surveillance.
