General terms and conditions which apply to Global Fund grants. 47045-JAM-708-G02-H-2 The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria With an estimated 1.3 percent prevalence in the general population, HIV in Jamaica represents a serious threat to the development of the nation. Ninety percent of new HIV cases are through heterosexual transmission. The program supported by this grant is based on the new National Strategic Plan 2007-2012, which aims to achieve universal access to HIV prevention, treatment and support. The program, which started in 2008, targets poor and vulnerable groups and seeks to reduce high-risk behaviors. Funded activities include the expansion of antiretroviral treatment and monitoring, adherence counseling, voluntary counseling and testing, health and family life education in schools, anti-stigma campaigns and operational policies to affirm human rights.
