General terms and conditions which apply to Global Fund grants. 47045-HTI-811-G07-M-2 The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria The island of Hispaniola, which includes the countries of Haiti and the Dominican Republic, is the only Caribbean island where malaria remains a public health concern. According to WHO World Malaria Report 2010, Haiti’s entire population is classified as at risk of malaria and almost half (47 percent) is at high risk. The program funded by this grant will support the Haitian national strategy goals to reduce mortality and morbidity due to malaria. Planned activities include behavioural change communication to increase knowledge of malaria among the population, scale up of diagnosis and treatment, strengthening of the surveillance system, designing of vector control activities, coordination with Dominican Republic to contribute to the elimination of malaria on Hispaniola and in the Caribbean. In 2012, three million long-lasting insecticidal nets were distributed.
