47045-GEO-H-GPIC-2 The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria Georgia has a low HIV/AIDS prevalence rate, but high potential for rapid spread of the disease. According to the AIDS centre, in 2009 the prevalence rate among general population was 0.1 percent, and the epidemic is driven by Injecting Drug Users (IDUs) representing 2.1 percent in 2008 according to the BSS report. The country has recently developed the HIV/AIDS National Strategic Plan for 2011 to 2016 with the goal to stabilize epidemic growth, primarily within the Most-At-Risk Populations (MARPs) and improve health outcomes for People Living with HIV (PLHIV) through improved coordination and strengthened advocacy of the national response. The program will ensure that the IDUs have access to the comprehensive package for the prevention, treatment and care, and support. It aims to contribute towards preventing the further spread of HIV through reducing transmission of HIV among IDUs and their sexual partners and achieving improved survival among IDUs living with HIV. The program combines is a Single Stream of Funding with the most recent consolidation of the Round 10 HIV proposal.
