47045-ERI-T-MOH-2 The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria The fight against Tuberculosis (TB) has been and still remains a major health intervention in Eritrea’s goal for a healthy population. Eritrea has a countrywide DOTS coverage of 100% and treatment success rate of 85% surveys ; however, the country has not achieved the WHO stop TB targets of case detection rate of 70%. This Program is a consolidation of Round 10 and Round 6 TB grants. The Round 10 seeks to improve access to TB diagnosis and monitoring. The proposal is consistent with Eritrea’s National Strategic Plan and is designed to fill gaps and overcome weaknesses in the response to Eritrea’s TB epidemic, while complementing the Round 6 program as well as other investments. The goal of the Program is to significantly reduce the burden and the transmission of tuberculosis in line with the Millennium Development Goals and the STOP TB partnership targets so that TB no longer remains a public health problem in Eritrea. The Program targets TB suspects & TB Patients; prisoners, prison staff and their family members; general population; and health promoters and health staff. The objectives of this program are: To increase case notification rate of all forms of TB (new and relapse) by average 4% per annum from 67% in 2016 to reach approximately 85% by 2021. To maintain achievements in treatment success rate among all new TB cases at 90% or above by 2021. To increase MDR-TB cases detected and enrolled for treatment from 32% of the estimated total cases in 2016 to 70% in 2021. To increase treatment success rate among confirmed RR/MDR-TB from 67% in 2015 to achieve and maintain at least 75% by 2021. To reduce mortality among HIV infected TB patients from 9.8% in 2016 to 5% by 2021.
