47045-COM-810-G03-M-2 The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria Malaria is the leading cause of death recorded in public and private health facilities in the Union of the Comoros. The most vulnerable groups are children under age 5 and pregnant women. The overall goal of the program supported by this grant is to reduce the prevalence of malaria by at least 50 percent by 2014. Planned activities include: free distribution of insecticide-treated nets through mass campaigns and distributions in prenatal consultation centers; indoor residual spraying; the extension of intermittent preventive treatment coverage; the introduction of rapid diagnostic tests; the provision of artemisinin-based combination therapy for the treatment of malaria; and the provision of technical assistance to the national program.
