47045-COL-911-G04-H-2 The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria The epidemic in Colombia is concentrated, affecting population groups with high vulnerability to HIV, with a prevalence of more than 5 percent in men who have sex with men and 3 percent in commercial sex workers. Although the epidemic mostly affects men, in the last 10 years there has been a tendency towards the feminization of the epidemic. The sexual route is the most probable means of transmission and although under-registration persists, 56 percent of infections are attributed to heterosexual contact, 28 percent to homosexual and 16 percent to bisexual contact. The purpose of this program implemented by Cooperative Housing Foundation is to reduce the morbidity, mortality and vulnerability associated with HIV/AIDS in prioritized key groups in 75 of Colombia’s Municipalities. The current grant plans to create a community capacity for adopting safe behaviour, reduction of social vulnerability to HIV and empowerment of prioritized groups, and strengthen institutional and networking capacity for comprehensive attention for prioritized, key groups. The main strategy of the program is to fill the gap in preventive services and measures for seven key groups that have been prioritized for their high vulnerability to HIV/AIDS such as communication actions for behavioural change and voluntary counselling and testing.
