DRC in the last two decades had experienced poor governance, conflict and lack of investment in health infrastructure, the health system information system and organization, and human resources, which resulted in limited availability of care. The program supported by this grant seeks to strengthen its health care system through cross-cutting interventions at all levels and increase access to health quality services and care. The program supports the implementation of the Health System Strengthening Strategic Plan (SRSS), sand its six strategic orientations that will help contribute to achieve the objectives of the National Development Plan of the Health Sector (PNDS) and National Millennium Development Goals. The emphasis of this Round 9 Health System Strengthening (HSS) grant is on strengthening of the health information system to allow informed decision making which will contribute improving health care services in 296 Health Zones by the end of 2015. Another important component of this grant relates to increasing health care service utilization through investments in health infrastructure, human resources, availability of essential drugs. The current grant will complement the Round 9 TB grants.
