47045-CAF-404-G02-H-1 The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria <narrative xml:lang="en">HIV/AIDS - Central African Republic (01-Jan-2005-31-Dec-2009)</narrative> The Central African Republic is the tenth most HIV and AIDS affected country in the world. The goal of the program supported by this grant is to protect the rights of children infected with or affected by HIV and AIDS, to facilitate their access to health and education services and to reduce both the social and economic impact of the disease on their lives. The program targets orphans and other children affected by HIV and AIDS and HIV and AIDS affected families. To achieve its goals, the program provides social support to orphans (including but not limited to beds, clothes, and scholastic supplies); promotes and provides legal services to support orphans and other children affected by HIV and AIDS; develops income-generating activities; and provides information, education and communication on HIV and AIDS. The program also trains health and social workers and provides antiretroviral drugs and other pharmaceutical products to those who need them.
